PART 2: HIRING A MICHIGAN PHOTO BOOTH RENTAL COMPANY:

When hiring a Photo Booth company, your job is a little bit easier than when hiring a DJ. People will enjoy even the most horrible looking, and poorly operating booth as long as it manages to take and print photos. There’s just something about a Photo Booth that is ALWAYS fun. However, most of the issues you’ll run into with a Michigan Photo Booth company aren’t as obvious as with a poor DJ. Many of the drawbacks aren’t visible, they’re hidden inside of the Photo Booth and you’ll only be aware of the problems long after you’ve hired the company.

Always ask if the Photo Booth company you’re planning to hire uses DSLR cameras. These are the digital large format cameras that pro photographers use. Many Michigan Photo Booth companies figure you can’t see the camera so they try to get away with using a regular point and shoot camera, or sometimes even a webcam. The quality of the camera and lens directly effects the quality of your photos. Tip: Take a look at the photos the company has posted on their website and compare them to the quality of other photos. Do they look grainy and dull, or bright and vibrant?

Another major corner cut by Michigan Photo Booth rental companies is choosing ink jet printers over dye sublimation printers. Dye sub printers cost about 10 times as much as Ink Jet printers, but the prints are ready 10 times faster (in seconds) and last 10 times as long! Prints from Dye sub printers are completely dry when they emerge from the printer and last up to 30 years. We’ve done demonstrations where we take Windex window cleaner and spray it on our dye sub prints to wipe off fingerprints with a paper towel. You wouldn’t do that with ink jet prints because they are ink dots sprayed on paper, not professional exposed prints. Insist on a dye sub printer or take your business elsewhere.

Lastly, go with a company that offers free reprints for all of the guests in each photo. Snapfuze initially started off with only double prints for each photo, but we added free reprints because it was by far the most requested addition to our service. Now, if 7 people take a photo together in the booth, they all get a physical print (plus an additional to go in your Photo Guest Book)! Tip: “Unlimited Double Prints” sounds as if you get as many double prints as you want. This usually just means that people can go back in the booth an unlimited number of times during your booking hours, but only 2 prints come out each time. Make sure the company offers “unlimited reprints” to get the best value. On top of each getting a print, Snapfuze booth guests can each email themselves the digital photos immediately from the booth to post on Facebook or Twitter. You’re paying hundreds of dollars to make sure people remember your event. It would be a shame if the photos were blurry, smudged and faded (or if someone else got the only printed strip!) before your guests got them home.

There are definitely other things to look out for, but those are the major ones. Some things like a bad attitude, or poor initial service are obvious no-no’s, but we’d like to let you in on some industry secrets so you don’t end up underwhelmed and needlessly angry. In part one of this article we’ll focus on hiring a Michigan DJ service.

PART 1: HIRING A MICHIGAN DJ:

Always hire a DJ with experience outside of DJing weddings, birthday parties or corporate events. DJs that are one dimensional tend to play the same songs in the same order at every event, even if the song isn’t working. We’ve heard complaints that many traditional wedding DJs let every song play to the end even if it was a bad choice and clears the dance floor. A “real” DJ would see the dance floor begin to clear and would immediately have another guaranteed hit song mixing in.

Also, some DJs try to convince you that you need an expensive lighting or souped up equipment package to make your event fun. If a DJ seems more focused on everything but you and the music that will make your guests enjoy themselves most, that should be a huge red flag. Quality equipment is definitely important (and we have to admit we’re equipment snobs, insisting on only the best), but if your first conversation with a potential DJ is centered around anything but making you and your guests happy, be very concerned! There are many options, but arguably choosing a DJ is in the top 3 most important choices you’ll make for your event. The DJ will generally be providing the atmosphere from the start to finish. Outside of the venue, the DJ is the other aspect that’s always present during your event. Think twice before shaving a couple hundred dollars by hiring a “cheap” DJ. You just might get what you pay for.

Book a Snapfuze Photo Booth for three or more hours at a time and a memories book, prop box and free delivery (within 60 miles of Ann Arbor, Michigan) are automatically included at no additional charge. We’ve included the memories book (also often called a photo guestbook) and prop box for free because we’ve found that with them, events are much more fun.

Our attendant will glue one of the two printed strips from each session into your memories book so that your guests can write a message to you next to their photo. We’ll present the memories book to you at the end of the event as a keepsake so you can remember your guests while reading their well wishes.

Snapfuze Photo Booths also allow your guests to select color or black & white photos during each booth session. Many of our competitors force you to choose either black and white or color for all photos taken during the event, but we think it’s much more fun that your guests get to choose each time they enter the booth!

Our standard double prints only take 20 seconds to print once the Photo Booth session is complete because we use professional quality dye sub printers (the same printers used by convenience stores for 1 hour photo printing). Your guest’s photo booth print will be ready quickly, printed with your custom designed logo, and the ink won’t smudge or run, or fade like it will with an inkjet printer. We suggest asking whatever Photo Booth company you decide to go with if they use inkjet printers or dye sub to make sure you’re getting the highest quality.
